Teacher Program Faculty Coaches

Teacher Intern Program faculty coaches are experienced educators who meet regularly with interns and mentor teachers. They observe interns in the classroom, give advice and support, and determine whether interns have mastered the competencies required for graduation.  Each coach is responsible for a small number of interns, making it possible for each intern to receive a high degree of personal attention.

Emily Girdwood, MS, coaches UVEI's teacher candidates with an endorsement in Art education.  She currently teaches at the Lyme School, and believes that students should love the creative process and have faith in their imaginations.  At Lyme School, Emily has designed an open studio and her students are able to choose their own materials and create their own work.  She graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine with BA in Studio Arts and earned a Master of Science in Teaching from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Gregory Renner, MST. spent 34 years as a science teacher and administrator. In addition to working with many beginning teachers in a formal mentoring role during those years, he also served as a consultant and statewide professional development provider for the Vermont Department of Education. Greg continues to work closely with the Vermont DOE as an advisor in matters related to science curriculum and assessment. He received a BS from SUNY Oneonta and a Master in Science for Teachers degree from Lyndon State College.
