Teacher Certification at UVEI

Is There a Teacher in You?

For over forty years, the Upper Valley Educators Institute of Lebanon, New Hampshire, has been helping talented adults with wide-ranging experience become great teachers.  At UVEI, we believe in the core value that every child deserves great teachers and great schools.

At UVEI, adult college graduates become certified teachers through an intensive, personalized internship program.  The program begins at an orientation in August and runs through the following June, when the academic year ends.  Each UVEI teacher intern enters with a strong academic background and career and life experiences to share with students.

UVEI's approach, developed and refined over the course of our history, is based on two related, foundational concepts:  experiential learning and competency-based assessment.

For more information about our program offerings, policies and procedures, view our catalog and handbook.

At UVEI, you will:

  • Spend a full school year as an intern in actual classrooms (one each semester).

  • Develop your skills and your confidence by working with a mentor teacher and a faculty coach.

  • Intern in school settings close to where you live.

  • Gather with fellow interns for weekly seminars on topics that include curriculum planning, learning theory, child and adolescent development, and classroom management.

  • Earn teacher certification in 12 months.

  • Achieve 10 UVEI Competencies - you'll know in advance what it takes to become a teacher.

  • Candidates may apply for up to 24 graduate credits through a partnership with the Upper Valley Graduate School of Education (UVGSE).
