Non-Discrimination
Consistent with UVEI’s core values of equity and justice, and UVEI educators’ ethical commitment to respect the dignity, worth, and uniqueness of each individual, UVEI is committed to maintaining a diverse and inclusive employment and learning environment free of bigotry and intolerance. UVEI affords equal opportunity to all employees, prospective employees, volunteers, applicants, candidates, and other participants without regard to race, color, religion, citizenship, political activity or affiliation, marital status, age, national origin, shared or perceived ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition (as defined under New Hampshire law), veteran status, family care status, sexual orientation, sex, gender expression, and gender identity.
“Discrimination” is defined as making a decision or taking an action that affects the terms or conditions of a person’s employment or education at UVEI, or participation in or access to the benefits of any UVEI program or activity, on the basis of one of these protected characteristics. Discrimination based on any of these characteristics is prohibited.
Non-Harassment
Harassment of any kind is antithetical to UVEI’s values, which emphasize the importance of relationships based on mutual respect, care, empathy, and protecting the worth and dignity of every person; as well as the belief that learning is a collective responsibility requiring each of us to foster our colleagues’ healthy growth and development. With these values in mind, harassment is prohibited.
Harassment is defined as verbal or physical conduct that, on the basis of a protected characteristic (see non-discrimination policy above), has the purpose or effect, from the point of view of a reasonable person, either of interfering with an individual’s employment or educational performance or of creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive employment or educational environment. Unlawful harassment may include, but is not limited to, the following actions: the display of graphics, cartoons, or objects; sending or forwarding electronic mail messages; and other conduct offensive to a reasonable person. Additionally, any of the forms of sexual harassment, assault, or misconduct described in the Title IX policies below, applied to any protected characteristic identified in the non-discrimination policy, also constitutes harrassment under this policy.
