Differentiated Instruction for Universal Access

In this inquiry, new teachers will explore how the understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities can ensure inclusive, responsive learning environments that enable each learner to meet high standards, access grade-level materials, and build towards autonomy and independence. Through a foundation in child and adolescent development, executive functioning skills, and trauma-informed practices, educators will identify and implement universal access and differentiation strategies. Practicums include building a case study of an individual student; articulating the educator’s approach to scaffolding, differentiation, and universal access; and a formal observation of teaching to learner differences. Above and beyond these activities, you can elect to do an additional exploration of the research as it informs and improves your practice. You may also choose to participate in an additional clinical coaching cycle with conferencing and an observation to support further improvement and application.
