Positive Relationships, Predictable Routines, Productive Environment

Knowing students and creating a productive and positive classroom environment are prerequisites for learning.

In this inquiry, teachers will engage in collective inquiry around knowing and building relationships with their students, creating the routines and expectations that foster a productive classroom environment, reinforcing positive classroom norms and practices, and responding warmly and firmly to student misbehavior and dysregulation. Practicums include building a case study of an individual student; articulating the classroom’s approach to routines, procedures, classroom norms, and accountability practices; and a formal observation of the classroom environment. Performance assessments of competency include planning and teaching the implementation of a new routine as well as a case study student analysis. Above and beyond these activities, you can elect to do an additional exploration of the research as it informs and improves your practice. You may also choose to participate in an additional clinical coaching cycle with conferencing and an observation to support further improvement and application.
