Research-Based Literacy Instruction

UVEI offers educators the chance to complete the Lexia Learning LETRS® (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling), an asynchronous, comprehensive professional learning course of study grounded in the science of reading. LETRS® teaches the “how, what, and why” of literacy acquisition and addresses the structures of language, the cognitive processes of learning to read, and the instructional practices proven most effective in preventing and remediating reading difficulties, including dyslexia. The LETRS® course of study supports educators in becoming literacy and language experts who can improve instructional practice and contribute to long-term systemic change in literacy instruction. This offering does not stand alone: it is only available in conjunction with other literacy and/or clinical practice options:

  • Recommended: Pair LETRS® certification with UVEI’s Language, Literacy, and Deeper Learning Series for a rich, cohort based learning experience ~ 5 graduate credits/fall semester for LETRS® Volume 1, 5 graduate credits/spring semester for LETRS® Volume 2
  • Independent option: Pair LETRS® certification with clinical coaching from UVEI faculty ~ 3 graduate credits/flexible timeline for each LETRS® volume
  • Additional options may be available for school cohorts who participate together ~ contact us for more information.
